Northern Thai Farmers’ Shirts

If Thailand’s northern region could be said to have an iconic item of clothing, this would be it. Known as suea maw hawm, these cotton shirts are worn by everyone from schoolkids to chefs, and it’s easy to see why: they’re tough, light, loaded with handy pockets and, because they’re dyed with real indigo, stains don't stand a chance against their deep blue hue. Plus, over time, they'll fade just like a trusty pair of denim jeans.
